Organizers of the TD Kitchener Blues Festival have announced this summer’s headliners.

“Thursday night at our kick-off show Burton Cummings with the Devon Allman Band and Friday night we have Randy Bachman with the North Mississippi Allstars, so it’s a tremendous lineup from start to finish,” said Rob Deyman, executive director of the TD Kitchener Blues Festival.

The festival will celebrate its 15th year by adding a fourth day of performances.

“It grew from a one-day festival in 2001 where 3,000 folks showed up and they said ‘this was great, let’s do it again!’ so the next year we did it again and we had 10,000 people. So every year it’s been growing and growing and growing,” Deyman said.

The Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman shows are ticketed, but the rest of the weekend features free concerts from bands including Mavis Staples, David Wilcox and Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

“We have an extremely loyal fan base within the Waterloo Region, but just as importantly we’ve attracted a very loyal tourist audience as well,” said Deyman.

Around 400 volunteers help make the TD Kitchener Blues Festival a reality. The festival runs from August 6 through August 9.
