The Region of Waterloo International Airport recorded 14,196 passengers coming through its gates in August, making for the busiest month in the airport’s history.

“We seem to have reached a tipping point with awareness that is translating into more passengers,” airport general manager Chris Wood said in a news release.

Thus far this year, airport officials say, passenger traffic has increased by 8.3 per cent over 2013 levels.

That includes increases for American Airlines, Westjet and Nolinor.

It’s expected that 145,000 passengers will travel through the airport’s terminal by the end of the year.
