53-year-old Derrick Lawlor has been charged with aggravated assault, after police learned of an altercation between himself and recently deceased Mark James McCreadie.

“A 53 year old male from Kitchener did in fact assault Mr. McCreadie prior to his death. The assault did not lead to his death but he was charged with aggravated assault,” says Waterloo Regional Police Staff Sergeant Shaena Morris.

Police won’t say what the extent of McCreadie's injuries were or whether or not a weapon was used in the fight, but say Lawlor and  McCreadie  knew each other.

The injuries sustained by McCreadie during this confrontation were deemed non-life threatening, and Lawlor is now awaiting a bail hearing.

50-year-old McCreadie was found dead in Victoria Park on Thursday, April 10.

Police say they still want to hear from anyone with information about what may have led to McCreadie’s death.
