A fire in Six Nations has displaced a family of six.
Crews were called to Indian Line Road just after 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
“First arriving crews reported heavy smoke and flame conditions on the north and south sides of the building,” said Matthew Miller, Six Nations fire chief.
Four Six Nations fire stations responded to the fire. A crew from Hagersville was also called in to help.
Three adults and three children living in the house all got out safely, but lost all their personal belongings. They are staying with family for the time being.
Six Nations has an arson problem, with nearly 20 suspicious fires in the past year. However Miller said this fire doesn’t appear to be arson.
“Initial reports that we’ve been given are leading us away from that direction this time, which is refreshing,” Miller said.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to help with the investigation.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
The Six Nations Fire Department will be accepting donations for the family at their location on 1953 Fourth Line in Ohsweken. Any donations are appreciated, but the family’s most immediate need is for clothing in the following sizes:
