A man armed with a gun stole prescription medication from a Pharmacare Pharmacy in Kitchener on Friday afternoon.

The theft occurred when a man carrying what is described as a semi-automatic style handgun entered the King Street West drug store around 1:45 p.m.

Waterloo Region police say the man got away with narcotics and was in and out of the store quickly.

This is and the third drug store robbery in the region in less than a week and the second robbery at the same location in under two months.

Waterloo Regional Police Staff Sgt. Ken Jessop says "Based on the description we're determining whether or not this is linked to that robbery that occurred in October."

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5'7" tall with a thin build and a goatee or thin beard.

Jessop says he was "dressed in a black coat, possibly a winter jacket or a hoddie and he's wearing a black winter-type hat that goes over his ears."

One witness who was in the parking lot saw the man leaving in a hurry, "He jumped over the wall there and piled into a car and the other person drove off."

Police were on scene quickly and have released images of the suspect taken from security video. They are also looking for the getaway car.

People are being warned not to approach the suspect, since he was last seen with a gun.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-650-8500 Ext. 3399 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
