PORT DOVER, Ont. -- A 16-year-old girl who ended a swim across Lake Erie earlier than planned says she intends to finish the swim later this summer.

Annaleise Carr ended her effort early Saturday morning at Long Point, Ont., short of Port Dover where she had initially wanted to reach.

Team spokesman Aaron Gautreau says Annaleise Carr ended her swim at 4 a.m. ET at Long Point, Ont., a few hours short of Port Dover, Ont., where she had initially planned to arrive around 11:30 Saturday morning.

She says the weather didn't co-operate, with waves hampering her swim. Carr also says she didn't get much sleep the night before.

She says it was a tough decision to end the swim short of her goal, but it was the right call.

Carr says she still raised around $150,000 for Camp Trillium, a childhood cancer support centre.

Two years ago, the native of Walsh, Ont., swam across Lake Ontario at the age of 14, becoming the youngest person known to have accomplished the feat.
