Dr. William Muirhead is facing allegations of professional misconduct and incompetence and is expected to face the Discipline Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Muirhead, a family physician, was served a notice of hearing in July in connection with 29 patients.

According to the college, he allegedly “engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct and sexually abused patients.”

That includes allegedly taking loans from at least six patients, including accepting $15,000 from one patient for investment purposes.

He’s also accused of sexual abuse, inappropriate sexual emails and hugging, and telling at least five patients he loves them.

In addition, there are claims that Muirhead offered to pay for a patient’s car repairs and an apartment rental so she could live alone, and that he shared confidential information.

Despite the allegations, Muirhead has a five-star rating on the website ratemds.com, and there are a number of glowing recommendations.

A date for the hearing has not yet been set, and the college says there are no restrictions on his practice ahead of the hearing.
