For the last month Wayne Dunham of Kitchener had been feeding a stray cat that kept showing up in his Huron Park backyard.

Two weeks ago the cat vanished, only reappear a few days ago, but this time he was badly injured.

“This throat was completely gaping, it was gross but it was rotting… he was in really rough shape.”

The cat, according to Dunham had his throat slit and his tail broken.

Dunham took the cat to a local veterinarian who performed two surgeries to repair the damage and save the cat.

“The laceration was badly infected, draining puss and there was a portion of the skin that had to be removed,“ said Veterinarian Robert Close.

Close says the laceration was three inches long and gaping, and in his professional opinion not done by another animal.

“I don’t believe this was done by another animal there was no tearing at all if it was a dog wound or bite it would have been torn it wouldn’t have been a straight line."

Remarkably the cat is on the mend, happy and slowly healing.

“It’s a great cat really really friendly and just a great personality,” says Close.

There is good news for the cat now known as “Will” named for his will to live. The Dunham’s say the family is planning to adopt him.

“I think he will fit right in, he has an amazing little spirit, despite what’s happened to him he is a very happy little cat.”
