An intersection in Cambridge seems to be attracting a number of disobedient drivers.

The intersection of King Street and Eagle Street is currently under construction. King has been reduced to a two-lane street and there are no left turns allowed onto Eagle.

Const. Mark Hammer of Waterloo Regional Police has noticed a number of people disobeying the no left turn signs, which were erected at the intersection last week.

On Wednesday morning, he says, he stood in the middle of the roadway and had to warn 43 drivers within just 37 minutes of the infractions that they were about to commit.

Hammer says that by breaking the “disobey sign” law, a driver can face a $110 fine and two demerit points on their record – as well as jeopardize the safety of construction workers in the area.

“We want those construction workers to feel safe that they can work along the road side, do their job properly without the possibility of getting struck by a motor vehicle,” Hammer says.

Hammer says that by following the signs set in place it makes everyone to feel safe and allows for the correct flow of traffic.
