Students at the Brantford Gymnastics Academy once again have a training gym to call their own.

On Nov. 7, fire destroyed everything in the Park Road North building that had housed the training centre for several years.

Gymnasts with the school were offered temporary space by other gyms, but owner Iudita Brumaru says her focus was on getting a new space they could call their own as soon as possible.

“We needed to start the classes,” she said.

“We had to start from zero.”

By Thursday, that zero felt like a distant memory as the academy moved into a new home on Bury Court, not far from their previous centre.

While some custom-made equipment is still a few weeks away from being ready, there is enough at the new facility that classes have resumed.

Last week’s fire has been deemed electrical in nature. Damage is estimated at $1.2 million.
