Public health officials say they’ve received vaccination information for the majority of high school students notified last month that theirs had not been filed – but the information on 1,438 students in Waterloo Region is still outstanding.

If that information is not provided by May 10, affected students will find themselves suspended from school the following day – and for up to four weeks thereafter, unless vaccination records are sent to the health unit.

Parents were notified of issues with students’ vaccination records in letters last month.

More than 3,000 such letters were sent out in Waterloo Region.

In Ontario, health units are required to collect and maintain vaccination records for all students attending elementary and high schools.

Immunization records can be requested from family physicians or other health care providers. Immunization clinics are offered by the health unit for people without family doctors.
